Hearing the Glitch

Sound is 50% of the "Game Feel." For Covenant Cards, we needed a soundscape that bridged the gap between 1000 BC and the Cybernetic Future.

The Instrument Palette

We created two distinct audio kits that blend together dynamically based on the game state.

Kit A: The Ancient (Organic)

  • Instruments: Shofars (Ram's Horns), Oud (Lute), heavy war drums, sand shifting.
  • Usage: These play during the player's turn, representing the human spirit and the connection to the land.

Kit B: The Cyber (Synthetic)

  • Instruments: Glitchy bass stabs, square wave synthesizers, modem connection squeals, server hum.
  • Usage: These play during the enemy's turn, representing the corrupted simulation and the cold logic of the Empires.

Adaptive Audio Engine

We implemented a dynamic audio layer within the game engine. When the player's Health drops below critical levels, a low-pass filter sweeps over the music, muffling the high frequencies. Simultaneously, a synthetic Heartbeat track fades into the mix.

It mimics the physiological response of adrenaline. The music feels "far away," and your own pulse becomes the loudest thing you hear. It creates genuine anxiety during close matches, signaling urgency without needing a UI popup.

The "Thud"

We spent days perfecting the sound of a card hitting the board. It’s not just a "click." It’s a layered custom sample:

  1. Top Layer: Paper snap (the physical card).
  2. Mid Layer: Magical chime (the activation of the ability).
  3. Low Layer: Heavy stone thud (the weight of history).

Try playing with headphones. You'll feel the weight.

Covenant Cards is a living, evolving simulation. While this archive strives for accuracy, the Architects (Developers) frequently deploy new patches, balance updates, and timeline extensions. Some card stats or mechanics mentioned above may vary in the latest build (v2.0+).
